Everything’s Coming Up Rosé (La La La!)

April 11, 2011

They’re starting to flow into the shop like the heaps and mounds of snow finally melting after the extremely long winter we’ve suffered.  I can’t believe it …winter is over and Rosé season is back! Not to jump ahead of mother nature, but Rosés are the perfect summer sip!

I’m so excited I’ve started singing the la la’s!

With spring’s scent in the air and flower buds peeking through the dirt, it’s time to break out my first “Patio Wine” for the season…so let me introduce Lealtanza Rioja Rosé. This little Spanish gem hails from a 3rd generation winemaker; Oscar Martinez. He was born; raised and trained in the vineyards of Rioja.

The wine is a vibrant pomegranate hue with scents of sweet wild strawberries and hints of tropical fruit. The palate is quite amazing; it shows up fresh and rich with ripe red fruit–but ends up dancing across the tongue with a lightness that is reminiscent of citrus fruits. A nice firm acid leaves the palate refreshed and ready for more.

For those seeking more technical information, here are the winemakers notes for your enjoyment.

Tempranillo is the only varietal planted in the Estate. Yields are kept low, well below the 6500 kg/Ha limit in Rioja. All grapes are handpicked in small cases and quickly taken to the winery. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine is only slightly filtered before being bottled..

Rose season has kicked into high gear at Andover Liquors – Pink is pretty!   I’m so happy la la la la la la!
